The American nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center<\/a>\u00a0(SPLC) described the subculture as “part of the online male supremacist<\/a> ecosystem” that is included in their list of hate groups<\/a>.[17]<\/a>[18]<\/a><\/sup> Incels are mostly male and heterosexual<\/a>,[12]<\/a>[14]<\/a>[19]<\/a><\/sup> and many sources report that incels are predominantly white<\/a>.[20]<\/a>[21]<\/a>[22]<\/a><\/sup> Estimates of the overall size of the subculture vary greatly, ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of members.[23]<\/a>[24]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least eight mass murders<\/a>, resulting in a total of 61 deaths, have been committed since 2014 by men who have either self-identified as incels or who had mentioned incel-related names and writings in their private writings or Internet postings.
